Yuichi Saito
*1983, Japan
Yuichi Saito is a member of Kobo Shu, a creative studio for adults with developmental disabilities, in Saitama Prefecture in Japan. He began to make his first drawings in 2002. Yuichi Saito produces “script-works”.
He writes the titles of his favourite TV series, such as Pocket Monster, TV Champion and Doraemon and completes each piece on the day the show is broadcast. He draws the calligraphic script characters over one another and tangled together, creating fine cloud-like forms and dense abstractions.
Examples of Saito’s work can be found in the collection abcd/Bruno Decharme, France. As of 2021, Yuichi Saito has also been represented in the 921 works of the “Donation d'Art Brut de Bruno Decharme” at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
